Since April 4th, 2006, the Belgium programs of RTL TVI, Club RTL, Plug TV and the Dutch channels RTL4, RTL5 and RTL7 can be viewed in DVB-T mode without any encryption on Channel 24. These programs are now broadcast on a national coverage in the MPEG-2 standard.
In order to watch these channels, you just need to install a set-top box or plug-in a small USB receiver. More than the significant quality improvement of the picture, this technology permits a reception on-the-go (anywhere, anytime...).
With the transfer to the channel 24, the analog broadcast of RTL TVI has been stopped, as well as channel 49 (RTL4) and channel 21-North (RTL5).
Digital broadcast of M6, LuxeTV and RTL8 has started on the channel 7 in MPEG-2.
Furthermore, the 2 Luxemburgish programs are broadcast from the channel 27: RTL Télé Lëtzebuerg 1 and 2.
BCE has demonstrated the feasibility to broadcast a Luxemburgish multiplex in MPEG-4 mode. This new standard will allow in the future to broadcast HD programs, which are another specialty of the Production and Postproduction services of BCE.
