BCE supports “Running Against Cancer”

“RunningAgainstCancer.lu” is an initiative by Pit Van Rijswijck. An incredible sport challenge and a fundraising campaign to support research into glioblastoma, a type of brain cancer.

Back in 2020, Pit’s father, Tun Van Rijswijck (BCE’s Chief Operating Officer) died in less than two months from the most aggressive type of brain cancer: glioblastoma.

Both keen sportsmen, Pit and Tun ran many marathons in the Alps, Norway and even Greenlands. During the last 15 years, Pit has run more than 20 marathons and 10 ultra-marathons.

To pay tribute to his father, Pit decided to run the World Marathon Challenge, an incredible physical challenge to run seven marathons on seven continents in seven days. Pit will have to run the standard 42.2 km marathon distance in Antarctica, Africa, Australia, Asia, Europe, South America and North America within 168 hours, or 7 days.

Along his physical preparation for this huge race, Pit is running an important fundraising campaign.

Named “RunningAgainstCancer” (www.runningagainstcancer.lu) the campaign has three main objectives: present Pit’s sport challenge, inform the public about glioblastoma and collect donations for the Fondation Cancer (www.cancer.lu) and use them to support research into glioblastoma.

BCE (Broadcasting Center Europe) strongly supports Pit Van Rijswijck in both his sporting adventure and his fundraising campaign.

“Tun was an incredible colleague and a fantastic friend, his loss was as sudden as unbearable. We are proud to support Pit in his sport challenge. In the loving memory of our dear colleague, we believe in the importance to support the research against cancer.” Frederic Lemaire, CEO at BCE.
