BCE, Host Broadcaster of the Trounwiessel

When Luxembourg witnessed the abdication of Grand Duke Henri and the proclamation of Grand Duke Guillaume V, the nation came together for a moment of profound historical significance — one that resonated far beyond its borders.

Mandated by the Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, through the Service Information et Presse (SIP), BCE was entrusted with the role of official and international Host Broadcaster, responsible for producing and coordinating the international live signal for the worldwide distribution of the Throne Accession Ceremonies.

Turning a historic day into a global broadcast

From 3 to 5 October 2025, BCE delivered the official international live signal distributed worldwide via Eurovision and ENEX.

The mission was clear: to deliver a technically flawless, visually compelling, and journalistically neutral broadcast, capturing both the solemnity of the State ceremonies and the spirit of national celebration.
During the three days, BCE managed host broadcasting operations across six production sites throughout the country.

In Luxembourg City, the coverage included the abdication and oath ceremonies, the balcony appearance, and the national celebrations held at Place Guillaume II and the Glacis.
In addition, BCE coordinated four remote production sites in Grevenmacher, Wiltz, Steinfort, and Dudelange, ensuring simultaneous live coverage from across the country.

All sites were interconnected in real time with the central control room in Luxembourg City, ensuring seamless coordination and a unified production.

An unprecedented technical operation

With 137 cameras — including cranes, Steadicams, drones, and integrated smartphones — and nearly 280 engineers, technicians, and operators, BCE deployed one of the most important broadcast infrastructures for an institutional event in Luxembourg.

All sites were interconnected through a Layer-2 fiber network, ensuring real-time signal routing and redundant workflows for the coordination and transmission from the main OB truck stationed at Place Guillaume II.

In total, the operation delivered over 24 hours of live international coverage, reaching audiences around the world through global media networks and streaming platforms.

“As Host Broadcaster, our mission was to deliver a reliable, neutral, and seamless signal for international distribution.
Coordinating multiple remote sites in real time required precision and discipline — a true collective effort from our technical teams” said Xavier Thillen Head of Production at BCE

Innovation and technological excellence

For this production, BCE introduced cutting-edge innovations that redefined live event broadcasting in Luxembourg.
A major highlight was the deployment of the country’s first private 5G network dedicated to live television production, authorized by the ILR. This secure network enabled real-time transmission from mobile cameras and the live integration of multiple smartphones used during the Pont Rouge performance.

BCE also coordinated simultaneous drone coverage from several cities, providing aerial and dynamic perspectives on the celebrations.
At the heart of the capital, the Media House – Container City was established on Place Guillaume II, housing temporary studios, stand-up positions, and translation booths — an integrated media hub offering a direct view of the Grand Ducal Palace.

Moreover, BCE enhanced the digital experience of the event through its Freecaster platform, providing live streaming and VOD access via the official Trounwiessel webpage, which featured a countdown and integrated graphic elements.
To reflect Luxembourg’s cultural diversity, the stream offered multi-audio options in Luxembourgish, French, and English. A dedicated secondary stream provided a sign language stream, ensuring accessibility and inclusiveness for all audiences.

In parallel, BCE operated a dedicated clipping and media distribution platform, giving accredited journalists access to official broadcast footage branded with the Governmental event logo.
This initiative facilitated immediate use of official video material by the international press, ensuring consistent and high-quality representation of the ceremonies.

Institutional collaboration and trust

This large-scale project was the result of close cooperation between BCE, le Service Information et Presse, the State Protocol, and the City of Luxembourg.
The alignment between institutional, ceremonial, and technical requirements ensured a seamless execution of a highly complex production.
RTL Télé Lëtzebuerg provided complementary national coverage, integrating BCE’s international feed into its special programming while producing additional national segments.

This project was delivered in cooperation with our approved high-quality partners: RTL Télé Lëtzebuerg as Broadcast Partner, TV Skyline as Technical Partner, Promusik as Lighting Partner, Freelense TV for Satellite Transmission and Eurovision and ENEX for the Global Distribution.

By producing the official broadcast signal of the Throne Accession Ceremonies, BCE demonstrated its technical leadership, its capacity for innovation, and the trust placed in it by the Luxembourg Government.
Beyond its operational scope, the project embodied a public-service mission of excellence and national representation, showcasing Luxembourg’s ability to meet the highest European standards of broadcast production.

“Mandated by the Government of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg and working closely with the Service Information et Presse, BCE demonstrated how trust, innovation, and technical expertise can transform a historic national moment into a world-class broadcast” said Frédéric Fiévez, Chief Operating Officer at BCE.
